It is a cold rainy Good Friday here in Maryland, at least in my parts. I was looking for something to brighten things up and came across a pattern on the Bead & Button website for another beaded flower. This pattern is called Fleur du Jour and can be downloaded for free by clicking here.
The pattern is mainly about the flowers and leaves, but they also show you different ways you can embellish using them. They are easy to make using peyote stitch and i love they way the curve outward and come to a point. The leaves are done the exact same way as the petals. The center can be embellished any way you want, using one bead, or making little stamens like I did. Each petal and leaf is weaved directly off of a sample of flat peyote that you make first. I cheated because I didn't want to take time to make the base, I wanted to go straight to the fun stuff! So I used a piece of stiff felt and pretended it was the peyote swatch. I stitched the petals and leaves right off the felt. Then I cut around the base of the flower so you couldn't see the felt. Then I thought wow you could now sew the felt right to some other fabric. Pretty cool.
Fleur du Jour, conquered.

Now you're speaking my language! This isn't French Beading, but flowers are definitely my thing!
ReplyDeleteVery pretty!
how sweet is this little beauty?! great work!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for stopping by my cooking blog Mandy :) It's dreary over here as well. That flower looks so inticate. I wish I had the patience to make something like that. Have a fabulous Easter!

This is very elegant. And, using a felt base isnt cheating, its artistic cleverness!
ReplyDeleteI'm not really a flower person, but that is really cute. I like that you used the felt, cause that opens up a whole new realm of possibilities!
ReplyDeleteHave a blessed Easter!
Your work is superb!
ReplyDeleteI printed out that same flower pattern a few days ago myself, with the intention of making it soon. Nice job!
ReplyDeleteBeautifully delicate...love the 365 theme.
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute little blossom! I'd love to take any form of credit for the design I'm working on at the moment but it's actually a pattern from Beadwork called 'Waves of Pearls' by Miwako Nara. I've got a bit of a pearl thing going on at the moment!
ReplyDeletehow clever you are! I like this one a lot- very pretty and I think it would make a wonderful brooch :)
