Day 191 - Wavy Triangle

Thursday, July 21, 2011
Completion time:  5.5 hours

I must say, today's project has been quite an adventure!!!  I initially saw the Wavy Triangle a few months on a blog, who's I'm not sure at the moment.  I loved it immediately!  After closer inspection of the photo decided there was no way in H-E-Double Hockey Sticks I was ever going to be able to do that!  So I left it behind and moved on.

Wavy Triangle

Recently Linda over at the Beadknitter Gallery made the exact same triangle!  It was gorgeous and I loved it, but alas, to hard.  Then she made another one.  That woman!  How could she tease me so!  Then I saw in the comments a link to the pattern which had be already translated from Russian to English!  Woo hoo, I figured it was kismet and went to investigate.

This is a little strange, but you can find the pattern here at Estela-Creation.com, who indicates that she was given permission to translate the original Russian pattern to English.  The designer is credited as being Lilija-Aylabs.com.

This was soooo much fun to do.  If you have ever made a triangle with peyote stitch you can do this.  The waves are easily shaped by changing bead sizes.  In this pattern, two are made and then zipped together to form the 3-D triangle.  Couldn't be easier!!!!  Except...

I zipped them in side out by accident.  LOL.  And there was no way I was taking it apart and re-zipping.  It still turned out really cool, but if you want to see a perfect one go to Linda's blog and look at hers!

Wavy Triangle, conquered!

  3. I'd be interested in seeing what this looks like from the back and the side assembled the way you did.

Btw, the designer of this patterns name is Tetyana Smeykal.

  4. This so cool. I don't see how you can tell it's inside out. It looks just like the pattern (to me). Great colors, too. Good job (as usual).

  5. Once I can get my GD! printer to print the damn tutorial I am going to make this...I love it!! And finished my swap bracelet and have nothing on the go right now, so its the right time to do this...so excited! Thanks for posting the link to the translation....now, if I can stop wanting to throw the printer out the window..

  7. I like the colors you choosed, reminds me of a kids toy :-) No one who uses peyote can pass this kind of triangle without trying it *lol* I love these triangles and they are worth each minute spended on them. You should try the smaller ones they are so cute and less time needed.

  9. Pretty cool, but I had the same though as you did when I first saw your triangle, "There's no way in H E double L I'm going to do this!!" LOL Oh and if it was a mistake on how you stitched it up, then it was a cool mistake.

  12. Thanks for the link Mandy. I have been admiring this pattern for some time also.

I downloaded the pattern but it does not have amounts- any idea of the amounts of 8's, 11's, and 15's you used? (Although the number of beads I have it is not like I am in any danger of running short.)

  14. It looks very complex, one would think it quite complicated to make. I'll have to give it a try though I doubt mine will look nearly as neat and awesome as the one you've made.

  15. Mandy, this is jaw-dropping--both the original version and your way-cool, accidental variation.

  17. In your picture the green rows meet the purple delicas at the seam. If you take care in placing the triangles, the ripples follow from front to back in a continuous line.

Hold the 'back' triangle against the 'front' triangle. If the raised rows do not line up, turn the 'back' triangle to the next point. If these don't line up turn the 'back' triangle to the next point and they should.
